Tool 01 / Age

How old is your dog, really?

This calculator uses the epigenetic formula from a 2019 UC San Diego study — the same DNA-methylation method scientists use to age human cells. Far more accurate than the "multiply by 7" myth.

Use decimals for puppies (0.5 = 6 months)
The science Wang et al. (2019, Cell Systems) analyzed DNA methylation patterns in 104 Labradors and found that dog-to-human age conversion follows the formula: human_age = 16 × ln(dog_age) + 31 Dogs mature very quickly in their first year, then aging slows dramatically. We additionally adjust for breed size, since smaller dogs live ~30% longer than giants.
